Dear Friend of The Piney Woods
School,
The dream of helping all
children to lead extraordinary lives through education still invigorates the
spirit of this school. Almost a century ago, Dr. Laurence C. Jones founded The
Piney Woods School on the principle that the key ingredients for a successful
life are a strong work ethic and solid academic preparation combined with high
moral and ethical values and responsible citizenship. Further, he believed that
true success comes not from the accumulation of personal wealth but by enriching
the community.
Our hope is embodied in our
newly renovated library, refurbished dormitories, our innovative academic
program, and in the drive and ambition of our students to excel. The Piney Woods
School was featured in U.S. News and World Report as one of the top
boarding schools in the country, and Forbes magazine profiled one of
the students in our robotics program, while 60 Minutes II recently
revisited the segment they did on the school several years ago.
This
year, 100% of our graduating seniors went on to some of the most prestigious
colleges and universities in the nation, or chose military careers with the
option of continuing their educations later with full scholarships.
As we
struggle to meet the challenges of the new millennium and to shape our vision of
the future, we are reminded of Dr. Joness favorite axiom, one that is
particularly pertinent in todays uncertain climate: One person can make a
difference in the life of the community, the nation, the world. In this
regard, we are deeply appreciative to each of you who support The Piney Woods
School and the work we do. Thank you for helping us to . . . "Change
the World, One Student at a Time"
Maj. Gen. (ret.) Wallace Arnold,
