Grading

The grading scale is based on the 100-point system, subdivided as indicated:

Numerical Score      Letter Equivalent      Quality Points
100-95 A 4.0
94-90   B+ 3.5
89-85 B 3.0
84-80   C+ 2.5
79-75 C 2.0
74-70 D 1.0
69-BELOW F 0.0

All students must maintain a 2.00 GPA. When a student’s average falls below this, he/she will have two semesters in which to elevate the GPA to or above the required score. Tutorial programs are held weekly to assist students in acquiring and maintaining the required GPA.

Failure to maintain the required score may result in probation, suspension, or expulsion. A GPA of at least 2.0 is REQUIRED for graduation from The Piney Woods School.

The Piney Woods School will provide grade assessments eight times per year: four midterm progress reports and four report cards. The PROGRESS REPORTS are mailed midway through each nine-week grading period. REPORT CARDS will be mailed at the end of each nine-week period, which signifies the end of each term. It is the parents’/guardians’ responsibility to notify the Registrar with up-to-date address changes throughout the year for the purpose of receiving communication from the school.

TERM GRADE COMPUTATION

Progress is formally assessed each nine weeks. Points are assigned during the nine weeks to each assignment or exam at the discretion of the instructor. Total points earned weighed against the total points possible will determine the quarter grade in each subject
