How much is tuition?

Maximum tuition is $28,571 per school year. Assessed tuition is based upon household income.

What type of curriculum do you have?

We have a college preparatory curriculum.

What are the requirements for admissions?

Applicants must have a “C” average with: No major behavioral issues, no suspensions, no expulsions, no involvement with the juvenile court system.

The applicant must receive good recommendations from the current English/Math Teacher, and Counselor, and must not have needs for Special Education or remedial courses.

The Piney Woods School does not accept students with severe psychological, emotional, or social issues.

What grade levels do you offer?

We offer grades 9th-12th. We accept applications for upcoming 9th-11th grades. A limited number of rising seniors will be admitted on a highly selective basis.

What is the deadline for admissions application?

We have open admission until all slots are filled.

Are there scholarships and financial aid available?

Yes, tuition is based upon the parents’ income. Once accepted, the parents will complete a financial aid assessment through TADS (see TUITION, FEES & FINANCIAL AID). There are foundations that sponsor students who have available scholarships. These scholarships are available to new students only.

Is this a school for bad kids?

No. Unacceptable behavior is the major reason for students being denied admission.

Where are you located?

The Piney Woods School is located 21 miles south of the capital city of Jackson, Mississippi. The nearest airport is Jackson Evers International.

Do the students wear uniforms?

Yes. The students wear uniforms daily.

Do all students stay on campus?

Yes. All students board on campus.

Do you offer summer school?

No. We do not offer summer school. However, we do have a summer enrichment camp for ages 10-15.

How long is the enrollment process once I have sent a complete application?

Once your application is complete with all necessary documents, the admissions committee will review the folder, and you should receive a response within two weeks. If the application is incomplete or the committee requests additional information, the process will take slightly longer.

Is this an all-African-American school?

No. We have a diverse community here at The Piney Woods School, with students from 28 different states and 5 different countries.
