Our Community
Since 1909, The Piney Woods School has provided young men and women with an opportunity to excel academically, become civically engaged, and socially responsible.
Our successes would not be possible without our students, alumni, parents, faculty, staff, and friends.
Each year, 98% of our graduating seniors enroll in some of the most prestigious college and universities in the nation, including Harvard, Spellman, University of Chicago, Morehouse, UC Santa Barbara, Berea, Gordon, Tougaloo, and Jackson State.
The school’s mission is to provide excellence in education within a Christian community through an exceptional academic model which supports the tenet that all students can learn, develop strong work ethic, and lead extraordinary lives through academic achievement and responsible citizenship.
Please take a moment to review last year’s accomplishments:
- The class of 2011 consisted of forty-seven students, who received a total of $2,898,269 in scholarship offers.
- Three underclassmen were accepted into a three-week Summer Enrichment Program at Georgetown University.
- Several members of The Piney Woods School Mock Trial Team earned first place honors at the annual Mock Trial Competition sponsored by the Mississippi Magnolia Bar Association.
- Twelve students competed in the annual Science Fair at Jackson State University on March 26, 2011. Six of their projects placed with one receiving first-place honors.
- The Piney Woods School Boys’ Basketball Team won the State Class 2-A championship at the Mississippi Coliseum on March 4, 2011. The team finished the season with a number 1 ranking in Class 2-A and an overall State ranking of number 3.
Our commitment to community service was evidenced by our AmeriCorps Changing the World Team which completed 19,707 hours of training and community service
