Dining Services

The Piney Woods School is recognized as a licensed school food authority with MS Office of Child Nutrition.  The National School lunch program was established through federal legislation in 1946. The Mississippi Legislature provided funding for needy children’s meals, guidelines for identifying the need, and a pilot breakfast program.

The Program is operated and monitored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture at the National Level, the Mississippi Office of Child Nutrition at the state level and by the Food Service Manager, Director of Operations and President at the local level.

The Piney Woods School maintains a self-operated kitchen that serves a population of 200 and offers breakfast, lunch, and snack meals.  On average, the Food Service Department of The Piney Woods School serves 150 breakfasts, 160 lunches, and 150 snacks daily.  The department receives Federal and State money to assist in the offering of these services to its students. These funds are used to help purchase the food, labor and supplies that are consumed by the program’s customers. The School complies with the regulations set up by the National School Lunch/Breakfast programs. One of the most important regulations is the Nutritional Guideline regulation, which dictates the Breakfast and Lunch nutritional content.

We are committed to implementing, educating, and practicing proper nutrition, which helps students succeed physically and to fuel their minds academically.
