Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday Celebration — We honor the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., on this day. Students write essays prior to the day-long celebration and are involved in various activities which aid in highlighting the true meaning of the celebration. Our “service day on” involves students in continuing the legacy of Dr. King as they serve others on that day.
African-American History Month — Achievements of famous African- Americans from slavery to the present are recognized during the month of February. However, recognition is not limited to this month. Throughout the entire school year art displays, library research, forums, and guest lecturers are all a part of the celebration of the achievements of African-Americans.
Founder’s Weekend/Parents’ Weekend — Founder’s Weekend is an annual celebration honoring Dr. Laurence C. Jones, founder of The Piney Woods School. Friends, parents, students, faculty, and staff come together for a weekend of celebration, culminating with a day of recognition to Dr. Jones.
