At Piney Woods, we still value the values that build character, a strong work ethic, and ethical decision-making. These are the concepts that will guide the leaders of tomorrow. But we don’t cling to the past. Just as we did over a century ago, we are creating the future of what education could look like. Picture yourself working with international and local architects and engineers to research, design, and build campus housing units. That’s the first project being undertaken in our Solve for X Institute, an innovative teaching initiative that allows high school students to solve real world problems in an exciting.
Picture yourself working with adult mentors and a team of your peers to create a robot for national competition. Under strict rules, limited resources, and an intense six-week time limit, teams of students are challenged to raise funds, design a team "brand," hone teamwork skills, and build and program industrial-size robots to play a difficult field game against like-minded competitors. It’s as close to real-world engineering as a student can get.

Picture yourself on a working farm where you may find yourself caring for small animals, planting organic crops, harvesting them for our table to dining hall project, or becoming a budding entrepreneur by selling these crops at our campus store. Our model farm boasts gardens, greenhouses, and catfish ponds. Last year, students built raised beds near our dining hall to take full advantage of our fresh, locally grown produce. So picture yourself actively contributing to a movement that combines sustainability, field to table, and our work program while connecting with local farmers, agri-business, entrepreneurship, and the rich cultural heritage you will find here. Picture yourself helping to install a solar array or a composting facility for the campus.
