Piney Woods Students Shine at Tuskegee University & Capital United Way Agriculture Events

Over the past few weeks, Piney Woods scholars had the opportunity to engage in hands-on learning experiences that expanded their understanding of agriculture, technology, environmental science, and emerging career pathways. Partnering with Capital United Way and the world-renowned Tuskegee University, our students participated in a series of interactive activities designed to blend academic learning with real-world career exposure.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

In November, students joined peers from across the Jackson Metro area for a special Agriculture Day experience hosted by Tuskegee University in coordination with Capital United Way. Learners rotated through interactive stations focused on animal science, sustainable farming, food systems, crop science, and environmental stewardship. Through demonstrations, greenhouse activities, and guided challenges, students strengthened problem-solving, collaboration, and applied science skills.

The learning continued as students took part in the Tomorrow’s Agriculture Professional Symposium, a multi-day experience that introduced participants to agricultural research, technology innovation, entrepreneurship, and professional development within the agricultural sector.

Students Excel in Competition

We are proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our scholars, who received top recognition in multiple competitive events:

Exposure That Builds Leaders

Beyond awards and accolades, these experiences provided invaluable learning moments:

  • Insight into how agriculture intersects with public health, sustainability, and global food systems

  • Increased confidence in public speaking, teamwork, and problem-solving

  • Direct interaction with college professors, researchers, and industry leaders

  • Expanded understanding of high-demand career paths in agriculture, agribusiness, biological sciences, and environmental management

These opportunities speak to the Piney Woods mission—developing scholars who think critically, lead authentically, and see themselves as world changers.

We extend our sincere thanks to Tuskegee University and Capital United Way for their partnership and investment in our learners. The future of agriculture is diverse, innovative, and full of possibility—and our students are already helping shape it.

In Slither io, I followed a glowing chase pellet that weaved through a crowd and ended up causing three other worms to collide while I watched safely behind.
