Rooted in Community: Piney Woods Expands Urban Forestry Impact in Mississippi

Updated: 8 hours ago

The Piney Woods School continues to deepen its commitment to environmental stewardship and community partnership through its latest Urban Forestry initiative in collaboration with Wildlife Mississippi. This project reflects more than tree planting — it represents investment in healthier communities, sustainable ecosystems, and a shared future rooted in care and collaboration.

Through the Urban Forestry Grant, Piney Woods helped facilitate the preparation and distribution of 7,500 trees across two Mississippi communities: Amory and Rolling Fork. Each tree order was thoughtfully curated to support long-term environmental resilience and beautification.

Amory received 4,500 trees, including Hardy Pecan, Water Oak, White Oak, White Dogwood, and Eastern Redbud — species selected to strengthen local green spaces and support biodiversity.

Rolling Fork received 3,000 trees, featuring White Oak, Southern Magnolia, Shumard Oak, Redbud, and Hardy Pecan — contributing to restoration and renewal in a community continuing to rebuild and grow.

All trees were packaged and prepared for pickup, marking a significant step in bringing this vision to life.

This project underscores Piney Woods’ belief that education and service extend beyond campus borders. By working alongside trusted community partners like Wildlife Mississippi, the school continues to model environmental responsibility while strengthening ties with the communities it serves.

We are deeply grateful for the partners, supporters, and advocates who make this work possible. Their collaboration enables Piney Woods to transform intention into action — planting not only trees, but hope, opportunity, and sustainability for future generations.

This initiative is part of an ongoing series highlighting how Piney Woods invests in community-centered impact. Together, we are cultivating spaces where people and nature thrive.

Join us in making a lasting impact — support our community initiatives and help Piney Woods continue planting hope, opportunity, and growth for generations to come.
