Statement from The Piney Woods School on the Passing of Robert L. Woodson, Sr.

The Piney Woods School extends our deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to the family, loved ones, colleagues, and extended community of Robert L. Woodson, Sr., Founder and President of the Woodson Center.

Mr. Woodson was a visionary leader, a devoted advocate for community transformation, and a steadfast believer in the power of people and institutions to rise from within. His life’s work reflected a deep commitment to faith, family, personal responsibility, opportunity, and the strengthening of communities across this nation.

To Piney Woods, Mr. Woodson was more than a respected national leader. He was a longtime supporter, donor, partner, and member of our extended family. His belief in the mission of The Piney Woods School and his enduring support of our work have left a meaningful imprint on our institution, our learners, and the future we continue to build.

We are especially grateful for the relationship shared between Piney Woods and the Woodson Center, and for Mr. Woodson’s commitment to uplifting institutions that prepare young people to lead lives of purpose, service, and impact. His legacy aligns deeply with the values that have guided Piney Woods for generations: faith, excellence, integrity, love, and empowerment.

As we join the Woodson Center and communities across the country in mourning his passing, we also honor the extraordinary legacy he leaves behind. May his life’s work continue to inspire all who believe in the power of education, character, and community-rooted leadership.

Our prayers are with the Woodson family, the Woodson Center, and all who were blessed to know and be shaped by Mr. Woodson’s life and leadership.
