Learning, Connection, and Community: A Strong Start at Piney Woods
The 2026–27 school year is well underway at The Piney Woods School, and as we approach the completion of our first month, our campus is already filled with learning, connection, new experiences, and opportunities for growth.
From the classroom to campus life and beyond, the opening weeks of the school year reflect Piney Woods’ commitment to educating and developing the whole learner.
Building a Strong Academic Foundation
A strong school year begins with understanding where each learner is and identifying the support and opportunities that will help them continue to grow.
Throughout August, Piney Woods learners participated in diagnostic assessments designed to provide our Learning Leaders with valuable insight into individual strengths and areas for continued development.
The information gathered through these assessments will help guide classroom instruction, targeted academic support, and enrichment opportunities throughout the year. These early insights allow our educators to respond intentionally to learner needs and create pathways for continued progress.
Knowing our learners is an important part of helping them succeed. These assessments are one of the many tools our Learning Leaders use to ensure learners are challenged, supported, and equipped to thrive throughout the academic year.
Building Community Beyond the Classroom
The opening weeks of school have also provided opportunities for learners to connect, build relationships, and enjoy experiences beyond the classroom.
One such experience included an outing to a Mississippi Mud Monsters baseball game, giving learners an opportunity to spend time together off campus, enjoy a community event, and continue building the relationships that are such an important part of residential school life.
Experiences like these complement academic learning by creating space for connection, shared experiences, and community.

The work of Piney Woods is strengthened by a broad community of people and organizations who continue to invest in our learners and our mission.
We are grateful for the support of our community partners, alumni, donors, families, and friends who contribute their time, resources, expertise, encouragement, and opportunities throughout the year.
Their support helps make possible experiences that extend learning beyond traditional classroom walls, including academic enrichment, college preparation, cultural experiences, recreation, leadership development, and community engagement.
Each contribution helps us continue creating an environment where learners are supported, challenged, celebrated, and prepared for what comes next.
As we move through our first month of the school year, there is already a strong sense of momentum across campus. Learners are settling into their routines, our Learning Leaders are gaining deeper insight into how best to support them, and new opportunities for learning and connection continue to unfold.
It is an exciting beginning to the year, and there is much more ahead at The Piney Woods School.

The excitement of basketball stars often comes from moments that require more than simply taking an open shot. When pressure, timing, and positioning all matter, making a difficult basket can feel particularly rewarding. It is the kind of success that makes players want to jump straight into another match.
Basketball Random is a basketball game where experimentation is part of the fun. Players can gradually figure out how to position their character and respond to different situations around the basket. This learning-through-play approach keeps the experience approachable for newcomers.
Helpful post that was straightforward and enjoyable to read. The CPS Test gives a quick way to measure clicking speed. After finishing a round, users can view their score and use it as a simple reference for future practice or another attempt.
