Jackson (MS) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha PsiAt The Piney Woods School, legacy is not only remembered—it is lived through meaningful partnerships that shape the next generation of leaders.

Recently, the Jackson (MS) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi visited campus, continuing a longstanding relationship rooted in service, mentorship, and shared purpose.

Founded on January 5, 1911, at Indiana University Bloomington, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. was established to promote achievement, leadership, and brotherhood among African American men during a time of significant racial barriers. Guided by its motto, “Achievement in Every Field of Human Endeavor,” the fraternity has grown into a global force dedicated to uplifting communities through education, service, and leadership development.

That mission is deeply aligned with Piney Woods.

Our founder, Laurence Clifton Jones, was a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi, establishing a historic bond grounded in a shared commitment to expanding opportunity and shaping young men of character and purpose. Over the years, this relationship has grown through intentional investment—most notably through the establishment of an endowment supporting Piney Woods scholars and ongoing engagement through mentorship and service initiatives.

During their visit, members of Kappa Alpha Psi immersed themselves in campus life—touring the grounds, engaging with students, and actively contributing to the Piney Woods experience. Young members participated in hands-on service, supporting campus beautification efforts while also mentoring students—offering guidance, encouragement, and perspective.

These moments reflect more than a visit—they represent a living example of leadership in action.

Through programs like Kappa Kamp and continued alumni engagement, the fraternity has remained a consistent presence in the lives of Piney Woods students, reinforcing the values of discipline, excellence, and brotherhood. Their investment extends beyond financial support—it is relational, intentional, and transformative.

At Piney Woods, we believe in educating the Head, Heart, and Hands. Partnerships like this bring that philosophy to life—where learning is modeled, leadership is shared, and legacy is passed forward.

The enduring relationship between Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and Piney Woods stands as a testament to what is possible when institutions unite around a shared vision: empowering young people to lead, serve, and thrive.

Seeing the visit from Kappa Alpha Psi to Piney Woods School is truly heartening—it’s a beautiful testament to service and brotherhood. These kinds of cross-organizational exchanges always spark such meaningful growth. While we focus on community service and leadership, I also wanted to share a lighthearted tool for broadening our cultural horizons: Canuckle.

What I like about eggy car is how it teaches patience without being frustrating. You gradually learn how to control speed and terrain, and each improvement feels genuinely earned.
