On May 1, The The Piney Woods School opened its campus to prospective learners and families from across the country for its annual Spring Preview Day — an immersive experience designed to introduce students to the school’s distinctive approach to academic excellence, leadership development, and hands-on learning.
The event welcomed 13 families and nearly 40 participants representing communities from Chicago, Nashville, Texas, Brookhaven, and Jackson, Mississippi. Throughout the day, prospective families had the opportunity to experience firsthand what makes Piney Woods a transformative place for learning, growth, and purpose.
Families began the day with devotion in the Library before participating in an engaging lineup of sessions, tours, demonstrations, and conversations with school leadership, faculty, staff, and current learners.
Attendees received customized admissions folders and resources tailored to their stage in the admissions journey — from first-time inquiries to accepted students preparing to enroll. The personalized approach allowed families to receive guidance, ask questions, and leave with valuable information about life at Piney Woods.
The day officially opened with welcome remarks led by Dr. Edwards, who shared insight into upcoming opportunities at the school, including summer programming and the future STEM Innovation Center. Families also heard from Dr. Will Crossley, President of The Piney Woods School, who shared the school’s vision and commitment to educating the Head, Heart, and Hands.
One of the highlights of the day was the campus and farm experience, where families toured academic spaces, cabins, and agricultural learning environments while witnessing Piney Woods’ hands-on educational model in action. Guests explored lab classrooms, learned about campus farm operations, and experienced demonstrations highlighting the school’s long-standing tradition of experiential learning and workforce development.
Following lunch, families participated in specialized sessions focused on student life, leadership opportunities, academic expectations, college preparation, admissions, and financial processes. During the student panel discussion led by Principal Gross and Ms. Dillard, current learners offered authentic reflections on their Piney Woods experience and answered questions from visiting families.
The event concluded with additional opportunities for one-on-one conversations, future campus visit scheduling, and admissions guidance.
Spring Preview Day served as more than a campus tour — it offered families a glimpse into a community rooted in legacy, purpose, and opportunity. As The Piney Woods School continues to expand its reach and impact, events like Spring Preview Day remain instrumental in connecting future learners with an educational experience grounded in excellence, faith, leadership, and hands-on discovery.
For nearly 117 years, The Piney Woods School has remained committed to preparing young people to lead lives of purpose while equipping them with the tools to thrive academically, professionally, and personally.
To support the next generation of leaders, innovators, and changemakers at The Piney Woods School, we invite you to help move this work forward.
